Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

One last item; When I install the Client, it comes up with one error message. Perhaps it has meaning in the context of the start-up problem of gpu=false or maybe it a common message during installation of the Client. Here's a snippet of the install string; "Preparing to unpack .../fahclient_7.6...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

...To remove the entry, you simply go to Configure and Expert, click on the gpu=false, remove it, hit Save and when it's done saving, reboot the PC. When it comes back up, it will start Folding on the GPU. Since we haven't found a way to eliminate the manual step, that's what the Guide says to do a...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

If the first time that FAHClient runs, it finds no GPUs with their respective drivers, FAH will add the gpu=false statement so that the next time you run it, it doesn't waste a few seconds reconfiguering GPUs:0. I have not done a fresh install recently. If it does find a GPU and configure it, it ma...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

It successfully found the GPU and Cuda. But the GPU=false is in the config.xml Removing the flag ir changing it to True and a reboot should get you up and running. This line here is where it gets the config file from. Config: /etc/fahclient/config.xml You'll need a sudo to edit files in /etc Thanks...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

The place to do it was removed from the current FAHControl. You can add the Extra client option 'verbosity' and set the value to 5. I added the option and as you said, came up with a much longer log. Here it is, what does it mean? *********************** Log Started 2021-02-15T00:31:26Z ***********...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

One note, if you want to see all options, only the ones not set to their default values get saved to the config.xml file, you can do that. Set the logging verbosity to 5 instead of its default value of 3, the next restart of FAHClient will echo all settings to the log file. It is strongly recommend...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

You could try taking a backup copy of config.xml, removing the "<gpu v='false'/>" line from config.xml and re-starting with e.g. sudo systemctl restart FAHClient.service There is a risk to breaking the config.xml file, but as long as you have a backup copy of it, it shouldn't be that bad ...

Re: Guide for installing FAH v7.6.21 on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

Did you delete all data before reinstalling? If not, the config file stood there as it was, with its flag. It's meant to be like that, so that you can install another version of the client without having to reconfigure the user and the preferences stored in the config file. Yes, I Purged the Client...

Re: Guide for installing FAH v7.6.21 on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

ajm wrote:OK. Then maybe the thing with the GPUs.txt not present when starting the service?
I ran the command to get the GPUs.txt file and it downloaded it to the intended folder. I then reinstalled FAHClient but same result, GPU=False

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Guide for installing FAH v7.6.21 on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

After trying a Google search for "folding@home ubuntu gpu false" I saw a few other people who had to edit the config and flip gpu from false to true or remove it. This may be the intended behavior to initially disable the GPU, or it may be a bug. That's exactly what I was thinking! After ...

Re: Guide for installing FAH v7.6.21 on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

A few thoughts: According to that log, OpenCL was not found when FAH was launched: 18:54:48: OpenCL: Not detected: Failed to open dynamic library 'libOpenCL.so': 18:54:48: libOpenCL.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or 18:54:48: directory Hi, You're looking a initial log before I ins...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

In the log above, there's this entry; 20:20:12: CWD: /var/lib/fahclient When I looked in this directory, I found another directory named 'configs' In the 'configs' directory are several .xml documents, so I opened the first one as follows; /var/lib/fahclient/configs$ nano config-20210213-202113.xml ...

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

Note that the following is in your personal config 20:20:12: <!-- Folding Slot Configuration --> 20:20:12: <gpu v='false'/> This overrides the default and changes it from true to false. Having this statement there will prevent the cliet's default behavior of reconfiguring your GPUs. Removing that o...
