Re: How does FAH "Detect" CUDA?
FAH Detects CUDA based on the kernel modules you have install for your hardware. Driver packages from 3rd parties (such as Linux ditros) might work ok for 3d games or desktop effects, but I have never gotten OpenCL or CUDA working with them. It is almost a requirement that Nvidia users download and ...

Re: GPUs stuck on READY
Those TPF numbers come from Project 9411. Because this box only folds part time I expect the PPD to fluctuate quite a bit. I normally don't even bother to put in my passkey for the QRB. Then just after Easter I became very curious about my potential numbers and entered it on my new build. I have add...

Re: GPUs stuck on READY
In theory, ;) two 750 Ti would be a better choice than a 970. In practice, that might not be true. :D ^^LOL I can't say for sure because I have yet to let either card fold 24/7. They are in my gaming/art box. From the numbers I have seen in Linux on Project 9411 (core 17), the 970 has an average TP...

Re: GPUs stuck on READY
You might want to consider a 750Ti, I'd think it provides more "bang for the buck" than a 740. There are 750Ti cards which do not require external PCIE power, in case that is an issue. I have one of the 750ti cards that doesn't have 6 or 8 pin PSU connectors. It gets all of it's power fro...

Re: asus nvidia Geforce 730 Silent, fails to start wu
If it were me, I would uninstall what nvidia drivers you have and try to a manual install by downloading from Nvidia's website. You will need to shut down the X windows system and unload any video drivers in use. See this thread for more info: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=27040

Re: asus nvidia Geforce 730 Silent, fails to start wu
OpenSuSE has always been a bit more Nvidia-challenged than other distros, at least according to Nvidia. For more information see http://users.suse.com/~sndirsch/nvidia- ... HOWTO.html and the Additional Information tab at http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe ... 1761/en-us. I hope that helps, E

Re: posting system spec's to see if this machine is viable
According to the wiki (http://fahwiki.net/index.php/Minimum_CPU_needed) the minimum CPU needed is a 500MHz Pentium III, but that article was last edited over 6 years ago. According to the FAQ (http://folding.stanford.edu/home/faq/#ntoc10) a Pentium 4 with SSE should be able to complete CPU work unit...

Re: Everyman's Guide to Nvidia GPU Folding on Ubuntu Server
Tips for installing Nvidia .run files in Linux 7im, that was where I started from last month. I was just not satisfied with most of the desktop distros I tried because there was always something that made it more complicated than I felt it should be. In most cases it was a feature that was meant to...

Everyman's Guide to Nvidia GPU Folding on Ubuntu Server
Preface I am writing this in hope of saving someone else the time and trouble that I have gone through to get my system folding on Linux. This guide assumes the following: That you want to install Linux for FAH and not much else. That you have read this guide and the links therein before you starte...

A new way to look for (at?) randomness in surface structures
Princeton University researchers have come up with a new of generating random 2D surfaces. I wonder if it will have any impact on understanding cellular membranes. Edit: I also wonder how it can be applied to Turing's Reaction-Diffusion system. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 104558.htm E

Re: Not new to folding, but new to dedicated folding.
If it were my money I would buy two or three systems each with a socket 1150 i7 CPU and two Nvidia 980s then install Linux for the OS. I would not overclock anything because that means more heat which means a greater chance of being throttled because of hitting the TDP for each device. Overclocking/...

Re: Idle state and servers.
If you are running Linux and your workload comes at predictable times (like 9am to 5pm) you could set a cron job to start and stop FAHClient. See the manual and/or info pages for your preferred version of cron. For systemd: service FAHClient start service FAHClient stop For old school init: /etc/ini...

While I don't think that non-human/microbe folding models are on the table for F@H at this point in time, this article may prompt some discussion on the subject: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 114327.htm A short excerpt: "We have demonstrated that RNA editing is a major player in g...

My main video card is an MSI HD 7950, but it is about to go through an RMA due to a failed fan and a cooked memory controller. While it is down I was looking at my options for getting through the 4-8 week RMA process with my sanity reasonably intact. I wanted something cheap, because it was just goi...
