Re: Need clearing up some confusion regarding HW
Yes at the time I was using the 280X it worked fine on a 2x PCI express 2.0, so a 16x PCI express 2.0 should be even better. I have not folded with AMD for over a year, but i don't think the code or implementation has changed in that time.

Re: Need clearing up some confusion regarding HW
I wrote a post about this topic a while back, might answer your question. Almost the same GPU too.

tl;dr - folding works fine on low bandwidth PCIe, especially AMD due to lower CPU>GPU communication.

Re: Distribution on Steam
Thanks all for throwing some considerations into the ring I hadn't been aware existed. It seems like most of the initial concerns over the challenges around control over the client and fahcores etc have been countered with some interesting potential solutions. My main idea (turns out someone also ha...

Put F@H on Steam Store?
Hi All, Just an idea. Has anyone ever thought of integrating fah into Steam, and somehow making it a bit like a game and people can get awards and collect stickers etc like in games. That way, surely it would be possible to tap into the enormous GPU resource within that community, while also leverag...

I'm sure many great things have been achieved despite naysayers saying it can't be done.

Re: Folding@home on Google Cloud? Free 60 day trial
I saw that crypto currency is banned, but that will be because you are using it for personal gain I guess. I think that if a user wants to spend $$$ running a distributed computing program on a cloud service then I don't see why Google or Amazon or any other service would have a problem with this. Y...

Re: Folding@home on Google Cloud? Free 60 day trial
I think the conclusion that most people drew with regards to the free Amazon service was that you only get spare capacity and this can fluctuate. Furthermore, most workunits passed their deadline before submission and so it was actually less beneficial to the project than not running them at all! Ho...

Re: Folding@home on Google Cloud? Free 60 day trial
Great news 7im! I'm curious why you went for 14.04, as i thought that 15.10 was the same price in credits. But either way good work! And thanks for the report mmonnin, 18k ppd is respectable for $0.00 cost. If even only the top 1000 donors did this (which to be in the top 1000 anyway requires more e...

Folding@home on Google Cloud? Free 60 day trial
Hi all,
I wrote this post on the rosetta@home forum:
Does anyone know how easy it would be to get folding running on this platform (Ubuntu) using the free 60 day trial?
Also, it's freaking cool you can do this!

Re: Dedicated rig High end GPU Low end CPU?
Hiya guys, It was not my intention to cause a ruckus! :D I was not aware of the no pictures policy having seen pictures on here before, but I respect the reasons for it so my apologies once again. I agree that seeing other dedicated rigs would be a inspirational benefit, but the rules are the rules ...

I've enjoyed reading about your quest to fulfil the concept you had in your head within your budget and parts available. I had a similar quest 2.5 years ago and 120 million points later it's still running strong! http://fah-web2.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=FoldingSolutio...

Re: 3rd GPU "adventure"
Hi Trendle, I'm actually using the PCI 2.0 2x slot for the 280x and it is 98-99% utilised 24/7, getting anywhere from 150k ppd (p9201) to 170k ppd (p1046x). It is on a PCI extender cable and slightly awkward to fit (it needs a dusting soon!). I would advise you to think about how you are going to ge...

3rd GPU "adventure"
Hi everyone, just thought I'd share my recent experience adding a 3rd GPU to my box. I previously had 2 AMD 7790s inside (with Asus Z87-A MB, 16GB ram and Vertex 4 SSD) which at first knocked out about 70k PPD. Then, after successive driver updates and presumably bette WUs, they now knock out 130k P...
