Re: Post BA question regarding work
No. They are not steering all donors there, just those with questions only PG can answer. Everyone else stays here. Hmm, my meaning didn't come-across the pond correctly. ;) The problem is, atleast at the moment Folding@home has no links to subreddit outside the blog but instead steers all donors w...

Re: Post BA question regarding work
We are redirecting questions which would like consideration by Pande Group to the subreddit and closing them here. The primary purpose of this site is donors helping other donors fold. The subreddit description is pretty clear that is the place to ask such questions or express concerns. Well a fair...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
1. What is the problem more specifically that you're referring to? 2. How are/were the stats in the spreadsheet incorrect for 10.02.2014? I'm not aware where being any problem with the spreadsheet, I just included this option since it's one of the possibilities what would explain the current number...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
I, like many others, have chosen to take a 2000 points per day Dual core Computer, turned off the CPU client, and added a GPU or two, making between 100K and 200K points per day. Yes this definitely is a possibility, but it's still a little strange the users responsible for shutting-down 24210 cpu-...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
Funny thing is the Linux TFLOPS have not gone down, nor has the active client count. The first set of numbers is from November 1, 2013. The second set of numbers was taken last week. Same TFLOPS, active clients have gone up, active cores have gone down. Decide for yourself. Native x86 CPUs Cores To...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
That would imply that the over the entire folding community that average number of Fermi video cards per computer is nearly 2 and that is hard to believe. I would argue that the vast majority of people have only one video card and to get that average close to two means there are an awful lot of 3+ ...

Re: Failed WU, how to delete it
Uhm, wasn't Core_16 retired last year, meaning wouldn't removing the GPU-slot from v7-client give the same result as downgrading to v6?P5-133XL wrote:You can guaranty no Core_17 (p8900) by using v6 of the client.

Re: Number of active folders going down?
snip... edit - just to be clear, ... but switching between an old single-core windows-computer to a 32+ core windows-computer has zero effects on TFLOPS. How can you say that switching from old Pentium 4 does the exact same amount of FLOPS per core as a new i7 Quad core? The speed of the SSE in the...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
As long as FLOPS = constant * CPU-count as is the case at the moment, the only way to increase FLOPS is by increasing #CPU's (or #GPU's). but that's not the case. When people switch between machines and/or to/from GPUs that makes a difference in FLOPs/machine and so the total CPU count is misleadin...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
I'm wondering if the metric of the total # of CPUs is a poor one to put on our main page. It's the wrong incentive -- we want the flops up not the total # of CPUs. When donors like kiore and codysluder upgrade FLOPs (even if their CPU count goes down) that should be seen as a positive change for FA...

Re: ATI FirePro V4800 unsupported
Well, according to Amd's pages the FirePro V4800 only supports OpenCL-1.1 while the HD-5xxx-series of cards supports OpenCl-1.2, so based on this it's a chance it's lacking some neccessary functionality... But, if goes by WikiPedia, the FirePro 3D V4800 has the code-name Redwood XT(RV830), this equa...

Re: Number of active folders going down?
I did notice it but what I would like so see is how the Petaflops are being effected; is it decreasing, increasing, constant. Within the same type, FLOPS = constant * #active_clients, meaning if where's a 50% drop in example Windows-computers, where's also a 50% drop in Windows-FLOPS. This means, t...

Re: Change in BA requirements
Rattledagger, what user name are you folding under now? I've been using Baldurs_Gate in the yearly FAH-Christmas-races and as mentioned is normally blissfully ignorant about whatever happens at FAH for 10+ months/year. Not having read the 1000+ forum-posts in 2013 does put me at a disadvantage, sin...

Re: Change in BA requirements
On[e] thing that might have contributed to the drop in Windows machines is the ending of core 78. I don't know how many set-and-forget machines there were out there running 6.23 or older that couldn't get any more uniprocessor work. These would have stopped showing up in the stats starting October ...

Re: Change in BA requirements
Those declining numbers sure do look scary. But cherry picking a thin slice of the total picture is not truly informative. That's why they added a new column to the osstats page showing active cores, not just active clients. With the world constantly upgrading from P4s to Dual Cores to Quad cores a...
