Re: Running folding at home on thread ripper
Keep in mind, many of the TR's have multiple "Chiplets" The good quality memory is probably much more important for performance than disabling hyper threading. In case of 3900x (two dies) I observed optimal performance when memory freq is selected according to IF limitations. At least in ...

Re: Running folding at home on thread ripper
I would run tests and take some values. In my case 24 threads are normally limited to 22 cause every GPU gets one thread and next is limited to 21 threads due to decomposition. Next test would be to create two slots 11 threads per each. In my particular setup the performance is better when I run one...

Re: Three different PCI info for the same GPU model
Thanks for more information about the species. I think it is hard to define those capabilities. See my example above, two cards theoretically with the same capabilities and yet different species. Here on the forum I heard there is also a 2060 KO card version which seems to be a better performer then...

Re: Three different PCI info for the same GPU model
You mean the numbers :8: and :7: specified in GPUs.txt. It looks like GPUs with performance higher than 2070 (non super) are marked as '8'. Except that two 2070 Supers.

Re: Three different PCI info for the same GPU model
It seems PCI Dev ID has an impact on project assignment, even if the GPU model is the same. This is example based on two 2070S with different Dev IDs (projects limited to COVID-19): GPU type #1 almost constantly assigned to: - Projects 14445-14469 (COVID-19 NSP12) - Projects 13416,13417 (COVID-19 Mo...

Re: Three different PCI info for the same GPU model
I found here on the list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_20_series the "8218" is referenced as Single precision (GFLOPS). Seems that number is base "reference" only, and may reach 9062 with boost. I am guessing it is related to factory OC. But manual OC would change that to...

Re: Three different PCI info for the same GPU model
Soo, the first entry was probably added first and that is why have this number specified, or?
Is it possible not all listed devices are participating in the same projects? For example I saw on the forum people asking to assign GPUs for some project (?). Not sure how that is related to the PCI dev ID.

Three different PCI info for the same GPU model
CPUs.txt specifies three different PCI info for one model of GPU: - 0x10de:0x1e84:2:8:TU104 [GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER] 8218 - 0x10de:0x1ec2:2:7:TU104 [GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER] - 0x10de:0x1ec7:2:7:TU104 [GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER] Which one is the best for folding and why does one of them have "8218&q...

Re: About 2 x GPUs and heat problems
I went back to Folding with a single 1060 and just realized the temperature @ stock is 76C (without any need to mod the settings with afterburner). It is not a card with a high end cooling solution, just two fans and radiator size gets two slots. Fan at around 56% I do not feel this is loud (and obv...

Re: About 2 x GPUs and heat problems
in the basement where the noise and heat aren't a concern Unfortunately not an option to run my setup outside. I believe this are a very good condition to keep the hardware cooler. a single RTX 2060 KO. Though about KO before I acquired 2x1070ti. My concern was about 2x fan cooling may be some limi...

About 2 x GPUs and heat problems
Recently I decided to upgrade my PC with 2 x 1070ti GPUs (from the second market) to use them for folding. You can imagine how much that was an improvement after switching from the single 1060 card. The power consumption increasedas well, but that was in range of my expectations. I also give it a tr...

Re: Network speed impact on PPD
next-unit-percentage v='95' Still experimenting with that parameter. I observed there is a work Queue. So things are going in parallel and next WU gets a separate thread (just guessing). Maybe I should limit number of CPU threads assigned to CPU calculation slot to give some 'room' for that downloa...

Network speed impact on PPD
It seems that client downloads some data from the server. The download process takes forever. Client is connected with 150Mbit/s data transfer. Will upgrading network connection speed to e.g. 500Mbit/s significantly improve PPD? I see download process in client logs: 08:08:59:WU02:FS02:Downloading 5...

Re: Client 7.6.13 in Medium settings use 96% of my GPU
My case use 120mm fans and is quite 'airy'. The noise is coming strictly from my GPU fans.foldy wrote:If possible you can also add a silent case fan to help GPU with cooling.

Re: Client 7.6.13 in Medium settings use 96% of my GPU
I found very interesting options in ThunderMaster app provided with GPU. It is called "Prioritize GPU Temp. Target". I set the target to 60oC. It limits the fan spin to about 1300 RPM. It is acceptable for my ears. Also the GPU clock can be lowered by -400MHz. In fact that conditions makes...
