Re: Why does the log no longer echo further assignment retri

Thank you, I'm pretty sure you're right (network issue and something failed to recover so the slot is dead until a restart), the GPU WU unit completed without me getting a CPU one, and when that was done I restarted the application and I got a CPU WU. Next time that happens I'll just wait for a chec...

Why does the log no longer echo further assignment retries?

I'm looking at the log on 7.6.20 I recently upgraded to from .13. I started the program around 20:18, I'm folding a WU for the GPU, I have no assigned unit for the CPU, then I see lines such as : 20:19:04:WARNING:WU00:FS00:Failed to get assignment from 'assign4.foldingathome.org:80': No WUs availabl...

Re: Limit number and "size" (credit) of received workunit

I don't think you can customize the size of the work units. But what I can tell you is that my PC is not a dedicated/unattended rig and I don't leave it on over night so I need some control over the folding. In the Advanced control tool, there is that very nice feature: the "Finish" button...

Re: Rationale for GPU WUs granting 20x more points than CPUs

Thanks all, I'm satisfied that it's been discussed and that there are opinions and a rationale; the topic is really interesting imho. I don't remember the last time I bought computer parts, might have been a PIII haahah, my rig is leftovers from a gamer friend so his donation make mine possible. The...

Re: (Query for) Figuring out how many CPU vs GPU WUs I folde

Thanks! Well, I suggest rather lines such as these ones: 19:56:54:WU01:FS00:Sending unit results: id:01 state:SEND error:NO_ERROR project:14616 run:737 clone:1 gen:61 core:0xa7 unit: 19:58:40:WU01:FS00:Upload complete 19:58:41:WU01:FS00:Server responded WORK_ACK (400) That's because it must be a suc...

(Query for) Figuring out how many CPU vs GPU WUs I folded?

I can see that the FAHClient directory has the log for the current session and there is a log directory which seemingly archives logs per date. Do you know of a simple method or query using common file/text tools (Unix/Linux) which could provide me with a count of CPU vs. GPU WUs I folded (successfu...

Re: Rationale for GPU WUs granting 20x more points than CPUs

@Neil-B Thank you, that discussion was very interesting and I understand better. Imho some material should be "sticky" in the New Donors thread, such as a post about the GPUs.txt and this, for instance. Search doesn't allow for too common/short words... @ajm Unobtrusiveness is a good point...

Rationale for GPU WUs granting 20x more points than CPUs?

I'm reading the Rules & Policies section of the folding@home website, in particular the Best Practices , ("Folding@home (FAH) is a major scientific endeavor, but is also a kind of contest for some donors to see who can donate the most points.") regarding The Project and Work Units (WUs...

Re: Does the ordered list work or is it just me?

Thanks! I read in from the mouseover info that the = sign meant ordered list. I'm not very familiar with BBCode forums. At least now I know!

Re: Scale or order of magnitude of WU (Generation) vs. Proje

It ain't so bad, that's just nano -tiny if I understand; in my case with your example that would mean 27 x 10^(-9) :egeek: There is strength in numbers, as you say. And ants do great. Still, I like that it's 27 on the certificate, without a bunch of zeros... and I sort of understand the rationale fo...

Scale or order of magnitude of WU (Generation) vs. Project?

When my CPU/GPU is folding a Work Unit, I see some info such as Project: 14379 (Run 2668, Clone 4, Gen 13) so I read the following about the meaning of those numbers: Aren’t these the PRCG numbers? Yes. Work Units are labeled with four distinct numbers in the format: Project (Run, Clone, Generation)...

Does the ordered list work or is it just me?

Is it me or the ordered list from the Full Editor doesn't work? This is the first item. This is the second item. This is the third item. First of all the List item button shows: [*]text[/*] but when you highlight a line and click it, it only adds the opening tag [*], and not the closing one, like sh...

Re: Does folding power (low, medium, high) impact the GPU; h

I didn't make myself clear, sorry, I can access the FAQ but rather it's the Folding Power Slider page you linked I can't see anywhere in there... and for which I was asking for... i.e. it's like the page has no link from the left hand side menu... is orphaned. In any case it's in your answer here. :)

Re: If a WU is assigned X cores, will x+1..n change anything

Thanks, I should have waited longer indeed and therefore my assessment was inaccurate. I increased by one thread, and was watching the ETA it it was going down sort of like a clock in the Advanced Control and after 2% there was a 10 mins drop and then after 3% another 6 mins. So I consider there is ...

Thank you, never saw that info. Just a usability question: how do you reach that document from the top level FAQ? I can't seem to access it otherwise than by using your link. I may be distracted...
