Re: B450 Chipset overheating with Ryzen 9 3900X + RX5700XT
Ah, yes. Cooling a Ryzen 9 3900x on a B450 motherboard. Fun and games. I'm running an RTX 2070 Super in mine. 1). Case airflow - Make sure you have a high airflow through the case. 120mm/140mm fans front and rear 2). cpu cooling - this one gave me a lot of bother. I tried the stock cooler, a number...

13420 (R7275, C51, G2) - 85% GPU usage on GTX 1660Super, TPF 4:03 instead of 2:48.

Re: B450 Chipset overheating with Ryzen 9 3900X + RX5700XT
The X570 has active cooling because it inherently uses more power. [...] The cool thing (pun intended) is that the active cooling only kicks in when the chipset reaches 60°C. In my setup (Ryzen 9 3900X, GTX 1660S), with decent enough air cooling, it only spun up once the room temperature exceeded 2...

Re: How can I stop getting 13420 WUs on my GPU?
If the temperatures on the GPU are within the normal range, and it is throttling that much, it would seem likely that it's GPU or driver related. Have you updated your drivers recently? You could also try and re-install/repair those, Windows updates have the habit to sometimes break the part of it t...

Re: CPU load and fan speed change all the time
I've had the same thing happening on Ryzen 3900X, and solved it by using the "Ryzen Master" application to limit the clock speed to 3800 (base clock). This puts a constant load on the CPU, rather than it trying to boost all the time, and therefore the fans stay at the same speed (=changing...

Re: Application Error?
Have you overclocked your system, or done anything else to it (undervolting, ... ) Please provide the first 200 lines of your log file as per viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036 (item 6,7 or 8, depending on the system). It will provide further info on your hardware, and may provide helpful in identifying...

13420 (5569, 98, 1) is also about 50% slower

Re: Can't get WU's for days
It's still showing the other GPU in folding slots and work queue. Anyway to get rid of that? TIA. You can't/shouldn't remove the slot, but to ease load on the servers and your log file, you can simply pause the slot. Additionally, you can set the pause-on-start option for that slot to true so it wo...

Re: Proj 13420 same variability as 13418
My hope is that since these WUs are short, the variation will average out and we ended up getting the base points about right on average! We're still working hard to solve the variability problem though---thanks for bearing with us. ~ John Chodera // MSKCC I'll try and report here on the forums whe...

Re: Question regarding the News post on July 8
Using the combined info from the postings of Hopfgeist and Joe_H, let's take an average of 500k steps (across the sum of CPU and GPU WUs): That would mean 50 million WUs to get 100ms. With an assignment rate of above 100k WUs/h at the time (seen on https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats), that w...

Re: Question regarding the News post on July 8
Okay, some clarification on the matter... I remembered this being answered indirectly on Discord a while ago, and I finally worked the search function correctly: @Grayfox @Uyaem nanoseconds may not seem like a lot, but atoms move around really quickly and the client computes/updates the forces/posit...

Re: Question regarding the News post on July 8
I think it's actually much "worse" than that, it's the combination of several thousand hours of computing that resulted in those 0.1 seconds.Simplex0 wrote:Does that means that a covid-19 work unit that commonly takes several hours to process only covering 0,1 seconds in real life?

Re: BAD_WORK_UNIT on p13416
Hi Jimbo, I didn't necessarily post to seek help, but I was told that due to the experimental nature of 134xx, failures were to be expected, so wanted to report this one. I'm 99.99% confident it has nothing to do with my setup, I've processed >250 GPU WUs fine in the past 2 months. For the sake of c...
