Re: I want to send this wu back - how?
I feel like dumping the WU should be a feature of the interface. Is this in the feature request for the app?

Really great info, and I think I'll stick with advice! An optimized bang for the buck graphics card.

Spot folding
I was wondering how to use spot instances to run WU, and clearly someone has figured that out, installed the client and started running it. I'm interested in doing this too. https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor/71687954 (was just viewing random user stats) Also, I really like looking at the monthly...

Re: How is our base of folders coming along?
I agree with @jimboPalmer. The system will improve, and has been improving since COVID-19, but some users got frustrated. Better off to keep frustration low and improve the system. This will allow consistent folders to not experience as many frustrations, and provide better experiences for those who...

Re: Hosting and new servers spin up time
Thank you @toTOW and @sukritsingh. I believe I can help with a good portion, but maybe not all since I'm not a bio chemist. Would love to learn more about setup and validations of the simulations. With the IT and cloud hosting, I could be of value still I believe even though there are more people ar...

Good to have some clarity. Thank you!gbowman wrote:By all means, if you see opportunities to take initiative, please take them. Some folks have made enormously valuable introductions to tech firms, for example. I'm prioritizing getting more work servers and work units up.

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
I agree with Aaron. On the point of the "fast storage, and Glacier is not that". This is accurate, but also missing an element that would be in place. You could easily use an /EFS mount point for fast scaling storage, and put a policy in place (30 days or something) that would move any fil...

@flwthewhiterabbit your client reached out to an Assignment Server (previous failures in the log), and got a WU (work unit).
Happy folding!

Re: Hosting and new servers spin up time
Even if you wanted to just stick to what you're doing now the #1 one thing that could cut 80% of workload for a setup is Ansible. All the teams could use this, it's python so not additional scripts are needed to run it. OS like Ubuntu and others have this in their core. I'd be willing to write the A...

Re: Hosting and new servers spin up time
Good to know about the background. I'm here to volunteer some time to help make this easier. Even if FAH doesn't take all of my suggestions or let me do that (maybe for security reasons - who knows) the suggestions still apply, and are cost effective. I want to help to make it easy. Things like IT s...

Hosting and new servers spin up time
Hello, I work in devOps with a particular focus on high volatility workloads, and it seems I could really help FAH in this with both AS and WS issues. I would love to volunteer some time to help the WU's get promptly assigned and collected given the large influx we have seen for COVID19, and people ...

Re: out of work?????
Actually, I think they're not that steep. I have experience with AWS, and I'm sure Google / Azure could manage the same. I've posted in the forums recently about asking to help with this stuff. Just specifically mentioning this, because I worked on AWS recently so take it with a grain of salt that i...

Re: F@H websites need some TLC!
Hi Anton, If you want to help out with the development of the project do connect with us. Think about how much time you can donate on a monthly basis and what you would like to do + experience. What is the best way to make this connection? A specific email to go to or should send an email to Greg?

Re: 11737 - benchmark? usefulness?
Hi @alxbelu I've also recently joined, but have been through some Work Units (WU) already, and also had the project you mention once. After a ton of reading I learned that FAH has been around for 20 years, and that the scientists as a group determine the priority for projects based on usefulness. It...
