I was intending to let the CPU do some work as well, as it only consumes a measly 140 watts.
With that CPU and 2 1080ti what sort of PPD are we likely to achieve? I would like to nudge 1 million if possible?

Re: Guidance for building a folding dedicated computer
I will probably stick with an Asus Sabertooth X99, I have had a range of Sabertooth MBs in the past and they are unstoppable and are designed for the grief. I am not well versed in the latest CPUs, is the 6850K with it's 6 cores going to be a good choice for folding, does the client take advantage o...

Re: Guidance for building a folding dedicated computer
Hello again guys
What would you do, so far I have penciled a build in for about £3000
Haswell-E X99, 6850K under a Corsair 240mm liquid cooler.
16GB of DDR4 RAM from Kingston
The big I am not sure about is the GPU department.
Would you recommend 2 x GTX 1080 or a single GTX 1080ti by itself?

Re: Guidance for building a folding dedicated computer
Ive got a water cooling loop in my existing PC. It is good because heat from the CPU is dumped straight out of the case and not recycled etc.
I will definitely look at the X79 Asus/SW platform. Thanks.

Re: When will the folding at home project finish?
Thank you, so in theory a modern rig could be usefully employed for the next 10 years and still make a worthwhile contribution in that time?

Please advise, hoping to build a dedicated folding machine
As I have posted in the newbie section, I am looking to build or buy a fairly brutish PC to fold with. It might get some VR gaming as well eventually. I am thinking along the lines of an X99 platform (probably Asus Sabertooth), i7 6850K CPU and probably a GTX 1080ti slotted on. Am I going along the ...

When will the folding at home project finish?
Please excuse me for the bone questions, I am completely new to folding, having only recently learned about distributed computing and began folding on my own gaming machine only yesterday. Since then I have been discussing the project with my father law whom is a (formerly very senior) retired docto...
