Re: Will folding 8hrs/day 5days/week trash my PC eventually?
Folding on this Ryzen (among other CPU and GPU projects) for nearly 3 years. It is air cooled, regularly runs over 60 C - very very rarely, depending project, has been known to go even higher. Folding however doesn't peg the temps that high on the CPU and I'm not sure why. The GPU does fine too - rx...

Re: 40.114.52.201 Failed to connect
This IP is giving me all kinds of errors, likely due to the increase in demand in work as stated above. Funny that others do just fine though when I transfer from them. Looking further into this, it looks like this server has the highest load out of them all in terms of sending work. If I'm reading ...

Re: switching from WCG to FAH. Worth it on these CPUs?
[6 laptops: Pentium to Core i5, 2 Core 13 desktops: one with a GTX1050ti, one with a GTX 1060. I use 4 laptops as POS in the lobby of a local theater, my wife uses 2 to judge BBQ] I know that by Haswell F@H is using avx-256. It is faster than sse2, but not that much. I have been Folding since a Sem...

AMD Opteron6128 8 threads SSE2 Xeon w3530 8 threads SSE2 i5-2300 4 threads AVX-256 1i-3570 4 thread AVX-256 So all of them are faster than what i fold with. CPU folding excels at different molecules than graphics cards. Accurate simulation of small molecules is ideal for the CPU. GPUs prefer to sim...

switching from WCG to FAH. Worth it on these CPUs?
Hello! I have a few older CPUs that have been laboriously crunching on Boinc for a few months now. One, a dual socket AMD Opteron6128 (16 cores total) and 2 Intel Xeon w3530s. I have a few other smaller fellas - an i5-2300 and 3570. What should I be expecting for any / all of this in terms of PPD? I...

Re: Should F@H abandon CPU folding?
Understand that this was NOT someone at Folding@Home considering dropping CPU folding. Some user using their own data was trying to interpolate for the rest of us. You need not be dismayed that one person has a question. Especially as the informed answers supported your choice anyway. Core_a4 suppo...

Re: Should F@H abandon CPU folding?
I'm very sorry for resurrecting an old thread. As someone who has previously folded with the CPU alone, it's truly disheartening to see posts like this and, if I had viewed this post now, it would certainly make me question remaining an active folder. As previously stated, there are things a CPU, at...

folding at home 7 flags? Advanced view inaccessible to a scr
Hello, I took a break from folding for a while (simply letting it run in the background on version 7.4.4). My question is - are there any command line flags I can change the client e.g. I read something about advanced work units? I've been mainly letting it run on the GPU (and I honestly forget how ...

Re: A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
Hi,
Just tried this now. Was never asked if I wanted GPU slot, it automatically showed up.
Made sure to remove everything from appdata as well.
Is there some sort of config file I can edit?
thanks

Re: A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
You can use the custom setup in the client to delete the GPU slot, and add or modify the CPU slot. If you think the current GPU WU might finish on time, use the "Finish" button on that slot before you delete the slot; otherwise you can delete it now. If you use the computer a lot for othe...

Re: A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
Hi, So now that I've been using this for a few days, I have yet another question. I have two machines with supporting graphics cards. However neither card is up to the task of completing the WU in time. How can I disable the GPU from being used? Furthermore it seems that, despite one of the cards be...

Re: A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
Hi, Thanks for all the replies, very much appreciated. Re: The GPU. I'm seeing only 1 estimate of how much time remaining, should I be seeing two if the CPU and GPU are working independantly of each other? Or do they both work on the same project at the same time and it's simply an estimated time? I...

Re: A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
Hi,
Thanks for both of those replies.
So no way to get CPU usage below 60 percent than apart from the slider?
Will sure take a look at those teams.
thanks!

Re: A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
Hi, I've tried the cooling pad before with this particular machine and it doesn't seem to make much difference. I don't mind having CPU usage maxed on most machines including this one, however when I'm sleeping, I was wondering if there was a way to bring it down, even temporarily while I slept apar...

A few questions, CPU usage and points on same ID?
Hi everyone, First off I'd like to say that I'm a first time user to this software and have a few questions. Firstly - I'm running this on a mac mini with a core i7-3720QM. From what I've been able to read, documentation says light mode should use around 50 to 60 percent of your CPU. Seeing as how I...
