Re: unable to return work units
At last, the backlog has disappeared, with the last WU almost finished uploading. I've lost the bonus entirely on a couple of them, and reduced bonuses on the rest, but that's life I guess. 15:15:09:WU05:FS00:Upload 78.19% 15:15:09:WU07:FS00:Server responded WORK_ACK (400) 15:15:09:WU07:FS00:Final c...

Re: unable to return work units
OK, just read your post, and it makes sense. 1. I simply hit the kill switch that supplies the router for 3 minutes 2. turned off wifi on the laptops 3. rebooted router 4. returned to my own Linux machine 5. watching the main Windows machine in FAHContol 6. 8 Work Units are vying for bandwidth 7. on...

unable to return work units
I have 5 clients, 4 of which are stacking up work units. At present, there are 19 work units failing to return. 01:53:33:WARNING:WU06:FS02:Exception: Failed to send results to work server: Transfer failed 01:53:33:WU06:FS02:Trying to send results to collection server 01:53:33:WU06:FS02:Uploading 27....

uploading problem project 18201
I've watched it fail, repeatedly, at approximately 36%. I did a pause for a little over a minute, then restarted the clients, to see what would happen, and it failed again at near the same spot. Hmmm - need to trim the log before I post: Your message contains 119353 characters. The maximum number of...

Re: Memory questions
Searched online, and found some memory to purchase for that computer, which is my wife's daily driver. (It was a part of her Christmas package, lol) It now has 16 gig of memory, and I don't think it has gone over 50% memory usage since I installed it. I can't say that the machine is running any fast...

quick note
I searched for, and found, a module of memory to steal from an unused machine. The Windows machine in question now has 12 GB of memory installed. Perversely, FAH has reduced it's memory usage to slightly less than 1 GB. FAHCore_22 using 640 MB and FAHCore_22 using 430 MB. Sorry, I don't remember whi...

Memory questions
Let us start from a premise, please. All software gets more and more memory hungry as time passes. There was a day when computers ran on 16MB of memory, then 128MB, then 256, then we broke a threshold where 1 full GB of memory was required for satisfactory performance. I've never really tracked how ...

Re: How can I get my GPU working as well as my CPU?
Thanks very much for your response, Joe. Much appreciated. Since I am using the latest Mac OS (Big Sur 11.5.1) Boot Camp is no longer available, so directly booting up in Windows is no longer available. I can run Windows 7 in Parallels, but I do not want to put all that extra overhead on my meager ...

Re: Tips for installing Nvidia .run files in Linux
This sticky might benefit from an edit. Please see my post, viewtopic.php?f=80&t=35249 Long story short: opencl does not work in Linux, unless you are using the "correct" GCC compiler. If you have been upgraded to GCC-9, FAH will fail because it cannot find an opencl device, or similar...

GCC-9 upgrades break folding
I drive an Antix linux, a rolling release. After the most recent update/upgrade, folding stopped working. GCC-8 was upgraded to GCC-9, but the FAHClient was unable to use GCC-9. Everything just came to a halt, with error messages about "no opencl device" and "no opencl defined" a...

Re: New Client 7.6.8
I have 3 Mint 18.3 and a 19.3 to upgrade. I read on another thread that just installing the new version over the top was fine, but wonder if that was talking about the WIndows version. I'd be happier to do the upgrades if someone else who may be better than me at fixing broken Linux stuff had gone ...

Re: New Client 7.6.8
Does the new client control use Python 2 or Python 3? I preface my answer with "I believe" because I'm not a programmer. I believe that we are now using Python 3, because, the package manager on my machines have generally refused to install FAHControl, complaining of a dependency problem....

Re: Top GPUs for Folding@Home
I'm curious to know what drives top performance? Is it # of CUDA / Stream cores, or clock speed? Looking at the google doc sheets, it looks like the nVidia xx80 series (eg 2080, 1080, 980) generally outperform the xx70 (eg 2070, 1070, 970) and likewise the xx60 series (2060, 1060) in that order. Wh...
