Re: Does FAH run when the computer is already busy tho unattended?
Thanks for the info. It sounds like either the transcoding or FAH may need to be prevented from running GPU tasks. Since neither Media Monkey for audio, nor Handbrake for video, makes much use of my usual machines' limited gpu capabilities, I'll trim settings on that side.

Does FAH run when the computer is already busy tho unattended?
I run some audio and video transcoding unattended, and would like FAH to run only when the transcoding is not. Does the default lower priority at which FAH runs prevent it from interfering with the a/v work?

Ok, which is it: ":::" or ":0:0:" ?
My elderly but still-supported (by AMD) FirePro V4800 graphics card has the latest drivers (drivers 2015, encompassing application package 2020). The local gpus.txt file lists the V4800 as: 0x1002:0x68c9:0:0:RV830 [FirePro V3800 (FireGL V)] , which agrees with "fahclient --lspci" except fo...

Bowman is at WU in St Louis not WSU in St Louis
A trivial issue: The 'About' window for FAH Client Control credits Gregory Bowman at Washington State University in Saint Louis, but the university name is Washington University in Saint Louis. It's a minor point but worth fixing. I wd post an image but it appears that neither OneDrive nor GoogleDri...

Re: CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
Yes, the doohickey, but 40%? :eo Something's rotten in Denmark, says the Bard... This may be one of those cases where an innocuous higher-level programming command produces a quickly widening pyramid of heavy-duty lower-level instructions on certain hardware or in unforeseen circumstances. Since I'm...

Re: CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
It is not surprising to me that the GPU is called into play, but rather that the apparent minimal amount of processing required on the web page would cause close to 40% GPU load. Additional playing around demonstrated that the web control page for FAH also triggers the phenomenon - and, not to downp...

Re: CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
That sounds pretty reasonable. And alternate-slotting core subsets was a feature that I hadn't been aware of, and so hadn't considered. I have to admit that I am an @home type, and need my machine responsive to my requests. But obviously 4 cores HT'd to 8 is more than my typical use will require, ou...

Re: CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
Please excuse me for being so concrete, but I'll ask a couple operational questions. It comes from my long (and old) computer background, which has me preferring a "road map" over "let's push a button and see what happens." So, do I "manually move the slider" as a first...

Re: CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
Hello! I was away for the last couple days, but it looks like some tricks and tips have surfaced in that time. Here's still a question welling from my current ignorance: Can I specify a given number of cores to use while I am working, and a greater number (or max) of cores when the system is at idle?

Re: CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
Well, then, I am a bit confused by reality (not the first time!). :? Below is a [large] screenshot of my system with FAH set at Medium "While I'm Working". The cpu cores are appropriately employed, but the gpu has also taken on a max workload. The Web Control Panel shows the Medium/While W...

CPU all the time, GPU only on Idle
Hey! I saw allusion to there being a setting to run the CPU continuously but the GPU only on idle. How is that accomplished? And if Idle is defined as Monitor powered down, is it the case that the FAH screensaver will display CPU work only?
