Re: Answers to: Reasons for not using F@H.
It is nice to see that my question got added to this list (...), but I would like to comment on another one: Won’t running my computer at full usage/100% all the time damage it? It is very likely that a good computer lives longer when run 100% at all times than one that gets turned on and off once ...

Re: Q6600 running SMP clients, 2 or 4 cores?
Due to lagg between the dual cores running two SMP clients provide the best PPD, although is not the best for the project. There is a program for Windows that sets each client to use a specific pair of dual cores, but I dunno what your options are for Linux.

No one should buy them, they should merge with AMD.

Physical trophies for milestones
I read this thread and it got me thinking. Why not set up a gift shop for Foldig@Home? With printed diplomas for <250.000 (like the ones on the stats) framed in and possibly signed for real, and trophies for e.g 250.000/500.000/1.000.000/10.000.000. With 300.000 users surely many beta testers at lea...

The 4870X2 already is already more powerful. Wait to see what they have on the GPU front in 2 years.toTOW wrote:Wait & See

Re: Rehab programs for folding@home addicts?
Hello, Im an adult and anonymous folding@home addict , erm. Ive bought four second-hand 8800GT and GTS cards the last 10 days, for the purpose of folding. And if that isnt bad enough... tonight I bought an additional GTX 280... for what purpose? Folding ofc. Am I the only one feeling a little bit c...

If Folding at Home were to finnish, what would you do?
Let's say Stanford didn't need any of us. They had no more work units. Your computers relax. What distributed computing would you move on to? BOINC: Biology Malaria Control — for stochastic modelling of the clinical epidemiology and natural history of malaria. POEM@Home — models protein folding usin...

I suggest if we don't have any counter arguments we change the reply to the answer in the initial thread.kyleaz19 wrote:That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard screw the environment.

Re: FAH and the environment
You apparently moved a decimal point. That 27% assertion is way off (no one makes that high of a claim)... Mankind's total CO2 contribution is usually given as around 2.x%-4.x%, so 2.7% would be right. I've often quoted and linked to a site giving 3% avg. Your NOAA link gives man's contributions ar...

Re: FAH and the environment
Actually, you are saying that, by default. The whole GW theory is built on the premise that there is an optimum CO2 level (and global temperature) and that we have altered that level. Atmospheric CO2 content has never been "stable", or steady state. We know that periods of earth's history...

Re: FAH and the environment
Just what is the problem? Who is to say that we have a clue about the "optimum" CO2 level or temperature? Some politician who has an agenda and has been getting rich from his GW promotions? And tells us that "the debate is over" when there are tens of thousands of scientists who...

I’m worried about the environment, won’t running this program increase greenhouse gas emissions?/ Won’t running my computer at full or near full usage all the time make my bill skyrocket? F@H needs only to be run when your computer is running. The average system uses maybe 70W at idle, and 120W ful...

Where do you want me to place a counter argument then?
