Re: Issues with box with very large number of CPU cores

For a lot of projects it is a minefield above 24 threads. On new projects I'm trying to help test up to 128t, but testing every combination can be tedious. And unfortunately since the bigadv and big flags are deprecated, we have no way to discriminate. At this time there are only a couple options. Y...

Re: ubuntu 20.04LTS and RX480

Good question - though that may be more of a question for AMD and Linux than for Folding at home. Half the fun of linux is the victory at the end after hours or days of pain and suffering. Why would you want to take that away?

Re: Client crashes constantly running GPU load on Radeon VII

Sorry if I missed it, but what AMD drivers do you have and what GPU voltage/clocks/RAM are you at (if not stock)?

Re: Cannot get client to install

My recommendation is to not install the client. All you need is FAHCoreWrapper and FAHClient (extract from the .deb) and the config.xml (steal from another computer or let me know if you need the format). Place those three files in a folder, make sure the executables are executable, and ./FAHClient ...

Re: AMD Radeon VII - Double Precision

Yeah, I agree there is no way to fix it with benchmarking. The card power consumption drops by half on the smaller units. It isn't being fullyt utilized so it effectively is a "smaller" GPU at that point and should be getting lower PPD. I just haven't seen one to this level before in a GPU...

Re: AMD Radeon VII - Double Precision

Another: 13815 Avg. Time / Frame : 00:01:31 - 1,407,062 PPD That seems in line with my Titan Xp The general trend I'm seeing is good on the large atom count projects. On the smaller projects it drops substantially due to underutilization (power consumption drops by half as well). 14158 (A tiny atom ...

Re: AMD Radeon VII - Double Precision

The first WU I've run on the VII at complete stock (except fan speed tweaks). Project 14152 Number of Frames Observed: 39 Min. Time / Frame : 00:00:59 - 1,688,170 PPD Avg. Time / Frame : 00:01:00 - 1,646,140 PPD Compared to some of my other cards (unfortunately my big cards haven't run this unit yet...

Re: Slow WU downloads & failed transfer [140.163.4.231]

I am seeing the same. Typically a few times a day I have to manually kill the client and restart it to get a hung upload to reset. Typically within 1 try (sometimes 2) after a client restart it will upload instantly.

Re: FahCore_a7 0.0.17 fails to start on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I just hacked on my old Ubuntu 12.04 install to get it working with A7 V17 (V16 worked fine). Updating the C++ libs and gcc to the Trusty/Xenial versions did the trick.

I also hit this problem on my 4P/Linux, however it is at a new house so I thought it was related to the internet there. I'll be glad if it is in fact just a server glitch :D

Yeah, that is what I was worried about Demonfang - by chance did you notice if it was a new Core Version #? Periodically I delete all my cores, just to make sure there isn't a sneaky core update hiding :D

Re: Nvidia 350.05 with opencl 1.2

Demonfang - if you are referring to the Maxwell OpenCL bug (that required a patch to core 18 so it wouldn't crash on Maxwells, but killed performance), that was fixed in a previous but recent driver and the FahCore was modified to include a check for recent drivers. If new enough drivers are found t...

Re: Is FAHBench for Linux around the corner ?

We figured out a handful of them. Basically, it was clear it was never compiled in Linux. There were several statements that were written incorrectly for Linux, but since it was compiled on windows I guess the compiler didn't catch them (my brother is the coder, I'd have to ask him for details). We ...

Re: Is FAHBench for Linux around the corner ?

So, were you ever able to get this compiled? I'm getting very strange errors when I tried on CentOS 7.
