Re: GTX 750 Ti (which one)
Utilities such as EVGA Precision allow you to adjust the fan profile, I think. My guess is you could let the card run a bit hot if you prefer quieter fans. You may want to revert the factory OC back to stock clocks if you do so, though. In any case, I'd think two fans cooling some 75W is going to be...

Looks like I spoke too soon. I posted updated info after testing again, viewtopic.php?f=61&t=27926&p=278285#p278285.

Re: Folding with a 980 ti and 4690k
Got me a nice surprise! When I re-enabled the pre-Fermi iGPU (NVidia ION1, a 9400GT equivalent), it was recognized properly and WinX automatically installed driver v341.74. Fun part is, I can't even find 341.74 on NVidia website. Closest thing is 341.44 WHQL which is the last driver to support pre-F...

Re: Should I, Would I, Could I?
At this point a FAH log would be useful in getting the 2nd GPU to fold. See link in Bruce's sig for more info about posting said log. Any chance you managed to take the screen captures while one of the GPUs was writing a checkpoint? GPU FahCores do a sanity check of data when checkpointing. At that ...

Re: Folding with a 980 ti and 4690k
I can test that, too. I disabled my pre-Fermi iGPU before installing 353.62 WHQL, so let's see what happens when I enable it. I'd say that is pretty much the same thing as adding a discrete pre-Fermi GPU. Gimme a few days, I'll finish some work and image my fresh WinX setup, in case something goes B...

Re: Pre-Fermi support?
Yep, I was able to make the reservation as well, although I ended up downloading an .ISO and upgrading from DVD after all. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10 Anyway, you'll get a barebones MS video driver, dated 2006... so no GPGPU and very few - if any - HW acceleration features...

Re: Pre-Fermi support?
I wonder how it benefited them to have the support in Tech Preview, only to drop it in actual Win10 release. Not exactly brilliant customer retention policy. At least I was a bit disappointed. People who are still using pre-Fermi GPUs are likely to upgrade soon, so there might be some payoff for NVi...

(Pre) Fermi support?
Uh-oh, Win10 Tech Preview led me to believe that I could still use my pre-Fermi NVidia iGPU for display and some BOINCing. Apparently not so, I ended up disabling the iGPU and installing the latest WHQL for Win10. As you probably know, NVidia has dropped pre-Fermi support in new drivers quite some t...

Re: Folding with a 980 ti and 4690k
Most likely you'll run into driver issues if you try to use both 7800GT and 980Ti. Latest (Windows) driver supporting 7800GT is 309.08 which certainly has no 980Ti support. And a new enough driver to support 980Ti won't have support for pre-Fermi GPUs. You might try connecting the display to the int...

Re: Wu size difference between chrome and native client
I'm not 100% sure about the current status, but the "Cause Preference" choice might still be just eyecandy. Originally the feature was added only to the client, to be implemented on the server side later on. Plus, the choice was never intended to guarantee anything. If there isn't work ava...

Re: FP64 trial run, anyone?
Definitely not for GPUs. However, previous FP64 core was 0x79 - that was a long time ago. I was actually wondering if AVX could boost FP64 performance so much that it would be about as fast as current SSE2 implementations with FP32? PG is cooking AVX versions of cores, thus increasing the number of ...

Re: Reality check on CPU vs GPU folding.
GPU FahCores pass data back and forth between the GPU and system RAM all the time. The (intermediate) results are stored in system RAM, and if it's a big simulation with lots of atoms, that requires a lot of system RAM. 9704 and 10492 are GPU projects with lots of atoms, and therefore have system RA...

Re: Reality check on CPU vs GPU folding.
1GB system RAM sounds small to me. I'd venture to say that 2GB is minimum, 4GB is comfortable and 8GB is more or less futureproof. Having said that, you probably get by with 1GB and a frugal Linux distro, but some of the newer and bigger projects such as 9704 - no can do. And P10492 is even bigger...

FP64 trial run, anyone?
I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile to start two trial projects side-by-side, FP32 vs FP64 once again?
