Re: CPU x86 FLOPS = GPU x86 FLOPS?
Bruce, to crystallize in my mind, would this be correct? GPU and PS3 allows a quick read if a theory is viable without a huge investment; CPU then refines the theory to a precision usable for reporting for peer review? If so, then would bigadv just be a bigger chunk of refinable data vs smp's medium...

Re: Bigadv points change
To Grandpa_01: Amen. I coach high school football (linemen). How often do then get the joy and glory of scoring the touchdown, but if their contribution had not been felt, would a touchdown have been scored in the first place? To Jester: Amen, again. I am in the same boat. Although I walked away a w...

Re: Bigadv points change
To true, Jester. I agree with deadline reduction over point reduction scenario, yet there would be a whole different section vocalizing against the change, stating almost the same arguments. If I had to go back to classic, I'd probably stop again myself. No true tricking, but remember when the HT i7...

Re: Bigadv points change
IMHO, I feel that the supply and demand issue is real. As Jester noted, machines not originally targeted for bigadv were found to be capable of running bigadv (4 & 6 core/HT i7, a few hex AMD) via tricking the download server into thinking there were enough cores to run bigadv. Hence, more machi...

Re: A few questions
I'm running an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (SMP) and the AMD 6570 (GPU2); I'm averaging about 2000 ppd. The GPU uses about 18 % of cpu, even with environtmental variables set (after experimentation). I would suspect a low-mid NVidia card would offer more ppd with not a lot of CPU stealing; I've never run any...

Re: ATI GPU 3
Clardav, I see an update for a beta v7 GPU3 from June 15, 2011 (http://folding.typepad.com/), v6.41 GPU3 for Fermi and v6.23 GPU2 for ATI on the high performance page (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther), but I do not see a production v7 for ATI anywhere. From what source do you de...

There is another missing point WU; shall I add it here or as its own thread?

Ah, gotcha. My understanding was that an individual WU is not assigned to two at once; system glitch.

Re: Missing Points - Project: 5743 (Run 3, Clone 459, Gen 34
How does a WU return with the incorrect name and team number? This is about the 12th WU with this user name and team number that I know of with which I've had a problem in the past 6 months. Is someone hijacking random WU so as to steal points? Are passkeys a security measure which can help with thi...
